903 British Columbia Dragoons
(Kelowna) Cadet Corps

Picture
After 1902, the strength and efficiency of Canada’s militia system improved somewhat with the return of veterans from the war in South Africa.   Then, a few years later, in April 1908, an independent squadron known as the Canadian Mounted Rifles (unofficially dubbed the Okanagan Mounted Rifles) was authorized for Vernon.  Later, in December 1911, the unit was granted authority to change its name from the Canadian Mounted Rifles to the 1st Regiment, B.C. Horse; the roots of the present day British Columbia Dragoons.  In 1912, the B.C. Horse became the 30th Regiment, B.C. Horse.

903 Kelowna High School Cadet Corps was originally formed 14 April  1921.  It disbanded 14 October 1925.

On 11 December 1940 the Corps reactivated under the same  designation.  On 3 Dec 1947 the corps disbanded.  The next day (4 Dec 1947) the corps reformed and affiliated with 9th RECCE Regt  (BCD) and re designated as 9th RECCE Regiment (BCD) Cadet Corps  'B' Sqn. Three corps had joined together to form one.  A Coy was  from Vernon (1705), and C from Penticton (788).  On 1 Oct 1962 the  Corps reverted to their former numbers and this corps reverted to  903 British Columbia Dragoons (Kelowna) Cadet Corps.  In 1983 the  Corps was placed on probation (no documentation) due to low  strengths until December 1983.  At that time probation was  removed.  Eff 26 Mar 96 sponsor changed to Royal Canadian Legion  Branch 26 (D Cdts Adm 213).
affiliation: B Sqn 9th Recce Regt (British Columbia Dragoons), Sept 30, 1962

A Sqn 9th Recce Regt BCD Cadet Corps - Vernon. B Sqn 9th Recce Regt BCD Cadet Corps - Kelowna. C Sqn 9th Recce Regt BCD Cadet Corps - Penticton, all three squadron designation as of Dec 4, 1947.
