Before the cadet arrived this year, hundreds of new young trees were planted around the camp in the spring. CWO Tim Ogilvie was appointed camp RSM, CWO Brien Anderson became a course officer with the Guard. 1035 cadets arrived at the beginning of July from across Western Canada. Uniform Transition was in full swing, half of the officers were still in the old combats and half were now issued the new CadPat uniform.
Cadet from C Coy, as part of the citizenship training, conducted a community wide bottle drive in support of the local fod bank. As they have for many years, Band Coy performed throughout the valley including Kelowna, Okanagan Falls and Sicamous, amongst others.
The expedition course continued to be popular with the cadets. Those cadets mountain biking on the KVR would be amongst the last the ride the original wooden trestles, as most would be destroyed in a just a few weeks during the massive forest fires. Bennett's Ranch was the main field training FTX site with companies of cadets rotating throughout the summer.
A massive power failure in Ontario prevented the planned reviewing officer from arriving. Commander Barry Saladana, CO of Regional Cadet Support Unit Pacific, was the reviewing officer. The Biggest news of the summer was the eruption of the forest fires at the end of camp. Cadets departed as regular soldiers arrived. In a week the camp was full of troops deploying to assist with firefighting from Bariere to Kelowna. Troops would remain in the camp until early November.
