For some cadets traveling to camp this year, the trip was even better than expected, flying in by 435 Squadron's C130 Hercules transport planes from Winnipeg.
The Skyhawks return to Vernon for a demonstration jump. Scuba training is introduced to senior cadets, with dive training taking place at Ellison Provincial Park. Skulling continues to be a fun form of teamwork training on Swan Lake.
Padre Jack Greenhalgh, in his 4th summer as a camp padre, proves his abilities by training with the cadets in the field. The former Dean of St. Michaels Cathedral in Kelowna, well into his 60s, rides mountain bikes and rock climbs with the cadets. Advanced rock climbing took place at Skaha Bluffs near Penticton with abseils off of 200 foot cliffs, and technical climbs on challenging rock faces.
Elders from the Okanagan Band performed a Sweetgrass ceremony at the camp, an event initiated by an officer at the camp whose home corps in Winnipeg has about 90% First Nations cadets. Camp staff come to the aid of a cyclist seriously injured in a bicycle accident in front of building J1. MGen John Sharpe was the reviewing officer for the final parade.
