Camp started with many changes for 1998, LCol Walton stepped down after his 4 year tenure. LCol Daigneault was appointed CO. The cadets arrived on the July 4th weekend, the weather conditions were appropriately Okanagan-like, 28-31c. Capt Al Harland was promoted to a company commanders position after many yearts as movements staff. The intake was changed to improve the efficiency, cadets would now do a mini sausage machine upon arrival, going through an hour's worth of paper work before being sent off to their companies. By Monday morning the balance of the intake was completed with well rested cadets.
The first intake of two week cadets in Foxtrot coy succeeded the entire period without a single RTU. Their graduation parade was sharp.
A very warm July made training and most activities interesting if not a little more challenging. Temperatures for a period of two weeks were consistently in the mid 30's even touching on 40c. The average was a sizzling 31c.
August continued where July left off, very hot with more records set. Battalion sports day was a raging success under the sun and 41c temperatures. Grad parade was as always very precise and fortunately cooler. Mother nature decided to give the camp a break, a col light wind blew in from the west around 4 in the afternoon, lowering the 38c temperature to a more reasonable 30c, it was welcomed by all. Lt Gov the Hom Garde Gardom arrived midafternoon as the guest of honour and reviewing officer. The battalion formed up on Dieppe Square at 6:30 pm after the pipes and drums of Band Coy had entertained the crowd of over 1000 people with music and highland dancing.
Reviewing officer: the Hon Garde Gardom, OC, KStJ, BA, LLB, Lt Gov of BC
Sword of Honour: Cadet/MWO Karles Biggar, 2847 12 Svc Bn RCACC
Commanding officer: LCol F. Daigneault, CD
