Sixteen various barracks and a mess hall in the former K-lines and D-lines were deemed surplus and demolished in March. At the end of the summer with the cadets still in camp, the camp experienced a close call as a brush fire quickly raced up the slope of the Vernon Gold and Country club. Fortunately it was stopped at the edge of the camp when staff put it out using hoses and brooms. There were no injuries. All the cadets were assembled at their fire points in accordance with camp fire safety standards, and there was no damage to the camp.

The Skyhawks jump team arrived in July for a demonstration jump. From 13,000 ft. the parachutists descended from the SAR Buffalo to a waiting throng of cadets lining the parade square. A former army cadet who had begun his career as a cadet in the early 1950's, LGen J. Dangerfield CMM, MSC, CD, was reviewing officer for the grad parade.
