Staff cadets were bused out from Calgary and area. Cadets began arriving aboard Hercules transports on July 7th. A three week band cadet course was introduced. This was the last year for the staff cadet RSM position.
This summer saw the first ever cadet reunion at Vernon, amid some of the highest temperatures ever recorded in the Okanagan Valley. The thermometer hit an official and amazing 39.5c/103f at the upper air station and 42.5c/109f downtown on the Friday! The reunion was attended by approximately 1400 enthusiastic former cadet, who toured the camp on Saturday afternoon after a battalion parade in the morning. The camp and the cadets gave a rousing welcome to all the former cadets, with Colonel Commandant LGen C Belzile, CMM, CD presiding. MuchMusic provided a cadet dance at the top of the hill in drill hall F-20. Festivities for the reunion goers carried on downtown well into each evening amid low 30c night time temperatures.
Grad parade was as always a tremendous parade but this year with an interesting twist. The cadets and staff from A Coy chartered a Cessna 172 to drop over 140 miniature parachutes over the Parade Square during the parade. Some drifted into camp or the sports field. Unfurled behind the plane was a huge banner "A Coy Forever." It was a huge hit with the audience, and the greatest stunt ever played at Vernon ACTCS. MGen C. Milner, OMM, CD was the reviewing officer for the parade.
Sword of Honour winner: Cadet/MWO Amber Dales, 2509 RC Sigs RCACC
Commanding officer: LCol D.B. Walton, OMM, CD
