Staff cadets arrived June 26 to begin their 10 day staff cadet instructor refresher course. This summer would see the camps first female RSM C/MWO Tina MacClean from army cadet corps 2290 BCR (DOC) in Vancouver BC.
LCol Ardelian welcomed arriving cadets at the Kelowna airport. There were 480 staff in camp supporting the 1220 cadets. A total of 19 cadets from Quebec attended the CLI course and 6 USMC Jr ROTC cadets were on course, 3 on CL and 3 on CLI. Sailing courses (sea cadets) relocated to Quadra Sea Cadet Camp. Whitewater course moved to Shuswap River near Enderby. The SYEP (Summer Youth Employment Program) was held at Brigadier Murphy Armouries in conjunction with the cadet camp. Rock climbing continued at Eagle Rock. Archery continued as part of the sports program. Swim meet held at Kalamalka Beach.
Band Coy once again paraded in the Kelowna Regatta and the Penticton Peach Festival. Sunset ceremony included the gun run, and firing of the gun by the sea cadets on course. LGen J.W. Quinn attended the ceremony. A Coy fired the Feu-de-joi and band performed the evening hymn. The sports meet held at Polson Park, began with the traditional march past, Band Coy leading. BGen J.L. Sharpe CD, Commander 1 Canadian Brigade Group was the reviewing officer for the grad parade. Cadet Craig Dunnigan Becomes the first and only cadet to win the Sword of Honour two years in a row.
