The camp, which had been threatened with closure last year, was once again open. Another increase in quota due to the close out of Shilo Cadet Camp resulted in an influx of junoir cadets from Manitoba and Saskatchewan. With 800 junior cadets attending the 2-week course, A Coy, was split into 3 companies - A1, A2, A3, to accommodate the extra cadets.

French exchange continued between Vernon and Valcartier camp, as Farnham was now phased out. B Coy participated in the 2 weeks exchange, visiting "Man and His World" in Montreal as well as participating in regular training in Valcartier.

Band Coy once again toured the interior, performing at several functions including the Salmon Arm Cherry Festival, Penticton Peach Festival, and Kelowna Regatta. Adventure training was revamped and moved to Swanson and Mt. Rose near Armstrong.

Due to very hot weather, films were shown outdoors at what would eventually be known as Coutts' Common, named after Capt Jim Coutt. A warm summer with a long 20-day heat wave from the end of July to the middle of August. Canoeing was introduced to the swim program.

 A second canteen in the D-lines served the cadets living in barracks on the upper hill. Over the summer 195,379 meals, 9601 box lunches, and 2274 RP4 rations were served. LGen Walsh Col Commandant of the cadets visited the camp, as did Lt General Quinn. Grad parade was on Dieppe Square, Aug 12 with Minister of National Defence Donald McDonlad as reviewing officer, and 3000 spectators in attendance.
