Between 1949 and 1952 the current Vernon Cadet Training Centre was known as "Alberta - British Columbia Western Command Trades Training Camp”
On the same parade ground on which their fathers and grandfathers trained for active warfare, 130 boys ranging in age from 14 to 18 years of age, members of the Western Command Cadet Trades Training Camp (WCTTC), completed the first summer of training. Another thousand cadets were in camp at the beginning of July for the traditional 10 days summer camp. Cadets on the engineering course built the 150 yard long gravel road connecting the BCD Armour y to the residential street. Of the five trades tough at WCTTC, four were in Vernon and one, the Medical Assistance course, in Chilliwack. For their six week courses cadets received a bonus of $60.00.
